This area features lovely waterfront properties in communities such as Mira Bay, Symphony Isles, and Andalucia, plus rapidly growing newer communities like Waterset and Covington Park.
Some of these neighborhoods were built decades ago, while others are just a handful of years old or less!
As a result, the average sprinkler repair here can vary from complete system replacements to simple fixes to address common builder mistakes.
Let’s talk about some of the common sprinkler repair issues we find in Apollo Beach.
Common Sprinkler Issues in Apollo Beach
Issues Found in Established Communities
Worn or Malfunctioning Solenoids
Solenoids are one of the few electrical components within an in-ground sprinkler system. They connect to your system’s control panel and are responsible for electronically turning zones on and off. When they go bad, it results in zones failing to activate or only partially activating.
Sprinkler Heads that Don’t Spray
Pop-ups and rotors can get clogged or wear down over time, resulting in partial or complete blockage of water flow. This usually results in isolated patches of brown or dead grass.
Tilted Sprinkler Heads
Over time, as the ground shifts and settles, sprinkler units can be pushed into a tilted position that forces nozzles to spray too high and miss their intended coverage area.
Outdated Control Panels
Like phones, TVs, and common household electronics, sprinkler system control panels also improve as new technology is introduced. One example is the introduction of Wi-Fi-connected units that can be monitored and enabled from an iPhone or Android device.
Broken Water Lines
As properties age and small trees become big trees, it becomes very common for tree roots to wear on sprinkler lines until they either crack or puncture. This results in complete zone loss and very large water bills.
Buried Bubblers
When builders install bubblers, they forget to tell you to move them as the plants grow nearby. Eventually, large trees and shrubs grow over top the bubbler and completely envelop it, resulting in a broken or missing line.
Common Issues Found in All Communities
Broken Sprinkler Heads
It’s a tale as old as time. Units begin to age, and their seals get worn due to the excessive Florida heat. You’ll notice that sometimes they fail to return to their casing and stay stuck above ground. An inattentive landscaper will run the mower too quickly and cut the stem clean off. The result is a geyser that you may not notice until your grass dies and your water bill spikes.
Stuck Rotary Units
Rotary sprinklers are great for reaching large coverage areas, but they also fail faster than fixed nozzles due to their moving parts. When this happens, they stop rotating properly and fail to cover their zone effectively.
Sprinklers that are Too Short
When builders install these systems, they do so before the grass has been installed. As a result, it’s quite common that the pop-ups are installed at dirt level and not turf level. This causes pop-ups to get stuck under the grass and/or their streams to get blocked by nearby turf. This is probably the most common issue of them all.
Misdirected Nozzles
This is also a common issue. Units get turned or misdirected over time, resulting in flow that waters your car or driveway more than it does the yard. In many cases, our customers realize they’ve been watering their neighbor’s yard more than their own!
